![]() ![]() ![]() Over the course of various wars several productions runs and variants were made, including the transition from the 6.5mm Type 38 cartridge to the larger 7.7mm Type 99, and the introduction of a paratrooper rifle that could be disassembled into two major parts for airborne operations. The Arisaka Rifle was designed by Colonel Arisaka Nariakira (有坂 成章 1852–1915), who was later promoted to Lieutenant General and also received the title of Baron from Emperor Meiji, in 1907. Many thousands of Type 99s and other Arisaka variants were brought to the United States by soldiers as war trophies during and after World War II. The rear sight has folding anti-aircraft lead arms. A rimless version of the 7.7mm cartridge in use with the Type 92 machine gun was developed and several rifles produced in this calibre for testing.Īdopted in 1939, the Type 99 rifle has the sliding bolt cover of the Type 38 and in addition a folding wire monopod. The barrel is excellent.Īfter experiences in China, the Japanese saw the need for a more powerful cartridge than the 6.5mm. The woodwork has a number of minor dings and dents. This rifle is in very good original condition but shows the rough manufacture typical of rifles made during this period. Unfortunately, the chrysanthemum has been ground from the receiver. Made by Kokura Arsenal, this Type 99 is 34th series and is of late-war manufacture and has a fixed rear sight, wood buttplate, and a two piece stock and short handguard. ![]()
